To close the concert the orchestra shall perform the splendid Symphony number 6 by Piotr Illich Tchaïkovski entitled "Pathétique", (pathetic) which is certainly worthy of its name.
Conductor: Roger BAUSIER
Soloists:
- Hanna DRZEWIECKA (Poland): violin
- Katarzyna DRZEWIECKA (Poland): cello
Program:
- Frédéric DEVREESE: Overture
- Peter SCHECK: Largo alla barocco

- Piotr Illich TSJAIKOVSKI: Symphony n° 6 in B Minor, opus 74 (Pathétique)

The Overture by the Belgian composer, Frédéric Devreese, and Largo alla barocco by Peter Schek, who is also a violinist of the BPO, will set the scene for the audience to appreciate the romantic splendour of the Double concerto for violin and cello by Johannes Brahms. Hanna Drzewiecka has been the “Concertmeister” of the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra for a number of years. The fact that Roger Bausier chose Hanna for the solo part and her sister Katarzyna for the other half of this duo is a tribute to her talent and musical commitment to the orchestra. It is certainly an unusual combination. To close the concert and the season, the orchestra will perform the splendid Symphony n° 6 by Piotr Illich Tchaikovski, the “Pathétique”.

I received this great honor after attending the Mark O'Connor Strings Conference in New York City, New York this past July. The Daniel Pearl memorial violin was beautifully handcrafted by master violin maker Jonathan Cooper of Maine (www.jcooperviolinmaker.com) in honor of the international journalist and talented violin and fiddle player Daniel Pearl, who was killed in Pakistan in 2002. As I have been given this great opportunity to share Daniel Pearl’s story and message of peace, I would also like to invite you to help with Pearl’s vision to spread peace and joy through music. We should all be inspired by Daniel Pearl’s belief that the universal language of music can bridge cultural differences and build international friendships. I hope you will consider being a part of the Daniel Pearl’s World Music Days mission of “Harmony for Humanity” by participating in this special benefit concert on April 17, 2010 beginning at 7:00 PM.

Love's Labour's Lost - Special Performance for Students
Artist: Shakespeare's Globe Theatre of London
Date: Saturday, 08/21/2010
Time: 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Country: USA
Website: http://www.ums.org
Venue: Power Center
Venue Address: 121 Fletcher Street
Venue City: Ann Arbor
Venue State: Michigan
Venue Zip: 48104
Details: Self-denial is in fashion at the court of Navarre where the young King and three of his courtiers solemnly forswear all pleasures in favor of serious study. But the Princess of France and her all-too-lovely entourage have other ideas, and it isn’t long before young love, with its glad eyes, hesitations and embarrassments, has broken every self-imposed rule of the all-male ‘academe’. Shakespeare’s boisterous celebration of the claims of young love is a festive parade of every weapon in the youthful playwright’s comic arsenal – from excruciating cross-purposes to silly impersonations, drunkenness, bustups and pratfalls. It’s also his most joyful banquet of language, groaning with puns, rhymes, bizarre syntax, grotesque coinages and parody. Directed by Dominic Dromgoole, with designs by Jonathan Fensom and music by Claire van Kampen, the production employs Renaissance staging, costume and music. “With a delightful deisgn and jaunty music, it has abundant charm…entirely enchanting.” (The Times, London)
