Shir Harmony, based in Port Washington, NY, on Long Island, is Rochelle Potak and Bob Emerman. They have performed over 450 times since they began singing together in 2002. They regularly conduct musical Shabbat services at several assisted living facilities as well appearing at special events both Jewish and secular. These engagements have included local fairs, black tie galas, Synagogue High Holiday, Shabbat and Installation services, Tot Shabbat programs, community holiday lighting ceremonies and concerts at synagogues, historical society museums, and private parties.
Both Rochelle and Bob are prominent members of their synagogue choir and are active in Hava Nashira, the Jewish Songleaders' network. Rochelle is a music educator and song leader at four synagogues. A member of The Guild of Temple Musicians and The Children's Music Network, she has also been a pianist for the Music Institute of Long Island and has taught music and movement to preschoolers at the Mid-Island JCC. She has composed over 90 pieces and, with Bob, has arranged much of what Shir Harmony performs. Bob has been conducting services as a lay leader for many years, has been featured as a temple soloist and has an extensive knowledge of the many forms of Jewish music. They have a unique musical blend, either a cappella or providing their own accompaniment on keyboard, or guitar.
