JoAnne Spies is a singer songwriter who has led people on sound improvisations through the Norman Rockwell galleries and has worked the past nine years co-creating songs with Alzheimer's groups, elders, teens and everyone in between. She grew up in Chicago influenced by Muddy Waters, John Prine, and a Sicilian grandmother who sang songs for every occasion. She has produced 3 CDs of original music: "2 x 3" with Jack Douglas; "Me and Melville," which has been performed off-off Broadway and at colleges and venues throughout the northeast; and "North Avenue Honey" with Todd Mack. JoAnne has received a fellowship as composer at the Millay Colony and is actively using music to help understand and explore environmental issues through improvisation and songwriting.
