Guitarist Matt Richards is one of a few contemporary musical artists who effortlessly bridges musical styles while maintaining a unique identity. While many listeners and critics are familiar with his genre-stretching fingerstyle acoustic work, others associate
him with straight-ahead jazz, playing both electric and fretless guitars. Though both identities may seem distinct, they definitely belong to one very individual musician.
In the culturally fertile cross-currents of the late 60s, Mattís musical pathway opened with the mix of folk, rock and psychedelic music. With the advent of 1970sí electronic-laden jazz-rock Matt was inspired to develop and apply the technically advanced skill that defined fusion. As his talent matured, Matt was drawn into straight-ahead jazz,
classical and world music concentrating on acoustic guitar and fretless guitar.
Matt has performed as a solo artist at a range of venues and festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Hostoric Lewiston Jazz Festival, National AIDS Awareness Day, Daniel Pearl Day, and SUNOCO Welcome America celebrations. He has been a featured guest on the televised programs
Miles of Music and Puerto Rican Panorama and has performed in the film Smoke And Mirrors.
While Matt has earned a considerable reputation as a solo acoustic guitarist, he collaborates in three duo projects and performs with his Power Jazz Trio.
Matt is currently working on his 5th release, Balance, an all-acoustic solo recording.
