The members of the Elysian Camerata have been working and performing together as an established ensemble for more than a decade. What began as the occasional collaboration of few close friends, who all felt a common bond in their love for chamber music, has evolved into an ensemble with a deeply abiding dedication to realizing the very essence of the music they perform and bringing it to their audiences with a commitment to artistic excellence. The primary goals of the Elysians are to be true to the composerís intent in writing the music they play, and to realize it in such a way that it communicates as directly as possible with their audiences.
The Elysian Camerata has performed throughout the Philadelphia area. Its members, all independently established musicians in Philadelphia, are involved in performance and teaching with numerous area ensembles and institutions. Their instrumentation of two violins, two violas, cello and piano serve as the basis for their ensemble from which they regroup into various sizes and types of ensembles. Their repertoire includes music ranging from unaccompanied works for solo instruments to works for larger ensembles such as quintets and sextets. On occasion they invite guest artists of other instrumentation to join them.
The Elysiansí individual careers have involved them with most of the area's major ensembles and music schools. The Camerataís members have performed with the Pennsylvania Ballet Company, the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, the Philly Pops, Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra, the Philadelphia Opera Company, Princeton Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra. A few of the members have had a long-standing affiliation with the Settlement Music School network, while other members maintain private studios in their homes. All of them have been involved with chamber music in various ensembles throughout their respective careers. That is the one constant that binds together the members of this ensemble. Other chamber ensembles that the Elysians are or have been involved with include the Danoff String Quartet, the Serafin Quartet, the Gabriel Chamber Ensemble, the Arioso String Quartet, the Castalia String Trio, the Fairmount String Quartet, the Tenor Clef Dwellers and the Soglio Chamber Players.
