Biography:
Andy Hickie is a roaming singer songwriter from the mountains of North Wales.

Over the last two years Andy has toured the UK and Ireland living out on the road in his trusty camper van 'Dean' and played a string of festivals including Glastonbury Festival through Q magazine’s ‘Glastonbury New Talent’ competition. He has followed the trail blazed by troubadours like Martin Carthy and Bert Jansch, travelling around the major cities and towns of Ireland, England and Wales, gigging, busking, collecting stories and sharing his songs and music the old fashioned way.

His desire to reach more people with his music led Andy to Wrexham, North Wales, to record his debut e.p “The Other Man” and also to the conception of “The Merry Maidens” representatives from many fine bands on the Wrexham and North Wales scene.

Andy follows the laws of Nature. After a long winter of gathering nuts (money), planting seeds (ideas / dreams / master plans), listening to old folk records and writing / recording new material Spring time sees Andy's seeds blossom. As his master plans come into effect he drops the job and hits the road with Dean again singing for his drink, food and fuel. Summer time sees Andy hop from festival to festival. "Festivals are like heaven on earth".

This Autumn and Winter Andy will be recording his debut album which will feature a collective of musicians and friends ready for the Spring of 2010.

"From a broadcaster's perspective, authenticity and integrity are the core qualities that make for an all round satisfying programme - Andy Hickie certainly fullfilled these needs. An enlightened performer." - Stan Ambrose, BBC Radio Merseyside Folkscene since 1962.
