Biography:
NICOLE HART & THE NRG BAND is the natural progression in the evolution of Blues, Funk, Soul & R&B, aggressively combining a seductive, exciting, funky feel with the soulful nuances of The Blues. Under the direction of producer, arranger, and keyboardist Lance Ong (David Sanborn, Grand Funk Railroad, Pointer Sisters), the mission of this consortium is to bring intense, provocative music & a completely satisfying show to the audience. NICOLE HART & THE NRG BAND have been bringing audiences to their feet at festivals & venues all throughout the Northeast. Lance Ong's masterful command of the keyboards is undisputed, & bringing the funky feel to the fore is virtuosic bassist Vonnie Hudson (The Shades), whose mesmerizing grooves lock tight with hard-hitting drummer Joe Piteo (Gil Parris, The Hopeless Romantics.) NICOLE HART & THE NRG BAND deliver an action packed, high performance concert guaranteed to get folks boogying!
Nicole Hart (Lead Vocals)
"Don't let Atlanta, GA native Nicole Hart's movie star good looks fool you. She can belt out vocals with the best in music. With her full rich tone, impeccable phrasing and precise pitch it's obvious that she is a singer's singer."
~ Sandy Mack, Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation
Her impressive resume includes work with a variety of music greats such as Harry Belafonte, Billy Joel & Michael Bolton as well the distinction of being the first ever white singer for the R&B supergroup, The Shirelles.
Hand chosen by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Shirley Alston, Nicole recalls, “I responded to an ad in the NYC paper, "The Village Voice", for a black vocalist. I ran through my qualifications for the musical director over the phone. When he invited me to come down, ‘Just one thing,’ I said, ‘...I’m not black…’ Pause. ‘Well, come down anyway,’ he said. I sang for Shirley & she hired me on the spot.”
Straddling the diverse musical terrain as defined by such icons as Susan Tedeschi, Janiva Magness, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, & Janis Joplin, Nicole's timeless, powerful, intoxicating voice is beautifully soul-sweet ~ silky, then gritty ~ classic, yet absolutely contemporary. She is renowned for her electrifying stage presence.
Nicole, originally from Atlanta, GA, composed her first song at age 12. “There’s a piece of me in every lyric I write; emotion I’ve felt, situations I’ve experienced, even wisdom I’ve gained. I write what is true for me.”
Guest Guitarists:
Grammy-nominee Gil Parris (David Sanborn, Blood, Sweat & Tears) is one of very few artists who have 5 nationally released albums in over four different genres: Blues, R&B, Smooth Jazz, & traditional Jazz. "Gil Parris shines through as the brightest star in the genre since Larry Carlton" -Guitar One Magazine
Dave Gross is a 22 year old guitar phenomenon who recently released his second CD produced by former "Roomful of Blues" guitarist, Duke Robillard, & has won a nomination from the Blues Foundation as Best New Artist for 2007.
