Praised for his stunning technique, sensitivity and superb artistry, cellist XIAN ZHUO 卓賢 is a young, professional musician whose artistry is recognized by awards and audiences. Xian has appeared in solo performances, recitals and chamber music concerts in England, Germany, Norway, South Korea, China, Canada and the United States. He has participated in International Music Festivals in Canada, Norway and China. Some of his most memorable experiences include sharing the same stage with world famous cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, conductor Seiji Ozawa and members of the Tokyo String Quartet. Xian has also had the honor of performing for over 30 ambassadors, most recently, by special invitation for the Philippine Ambassador in Washington, D.C.
Born in Xiamen, China, Xian received his professional education at the University of Southern California, Yale University, the Royal Northern College of Music and Shanghai Conservatory. Prominent artist teachers he has studied with include Ralph Kirshbaum, Nathaniel Rosen, Aldo Parisot, Mstislav Rostropovich, Yo-Yo Ma, Natalia Gutman, Trüls Mřrk, Jian Wang, Liwei Qin, Eleonore Schoenfeld and Mei-juan Liu.
Xian is one of the most impressive cellists to emerge from China, combining Russian-style virtuosity with the subtle nuances, color and sensitivity associated with his native China. His goal is to share the beautiful musical fabric that he creates with audiences throughout the world.
