Jackie Jones is a graduate of Newark's High School of the Performing Arts and Rutgers--The State University of New Jersey. While earning her degree in Psychology, she continued her formal music education at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers. There she trained and further refined her musical style under noteworthy jazz talents as pirnist Kenny Barron, drummer Keith Copeland, vibraphonist Steve Nelson and bassist Larry Ridley.
Ms. Jones' musical associations are formidable, having opened for the legendary Lou Rawls and performed with pianists Danny Mixon, Gloria Coleman and Eddie Green; vibraphonist Roy Ayers; trumpeter Nat Adderly; saxophonists David Murray, Houston Person and Ray Gaskins; guitarist Jimmy Ponder, trombonist Grachyen Moncur III, bassists Christian McBridge and Lonnie Plaxico; drummer Cecil Brooks III and the Harper Brothers. Ms. Jones has electrified audiences from New York City to Germany and has had the privilege of performing for the Rev. Jesse Jackson, as well as a delegation of Chinese diplomats during her tours throughout the U.S. Her greatest vocal influences are anchored in the tradition of jazz song stylists Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson and Etta Jones.
