Biography:
The Cornell Gamelan Ensemble, currently directed by Christopher J. Miller, was founded in 1972 by Martin Hatch. Over 3,000 students have played gamelan since that time, in end-of-semester concerts, sometimes with dance or wayang (shadow puppet theater). The ensemble plays on a set of instruments brought to the United States for the New York Worlds' Fair in 1964 that are currently on long-term loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
