Renfrew Group is a Hong Kong-based jazz ensemble founded by alumni of The Hong Kong Baptist University Music Department and Berklee College of Music (USA). Known for its versatility, the group has given performances in a wide variety of styles/settings including jazz, pop, Brazilian, duo to nonet, and recently as a jazz orchestra together with other veteran big band jazz musicians. Members of the group are all active musicians on both the local and Boston scenes, and have appeared in PASIC, the Beantown Jazz Festival, jazz clubs in Boston, and have collaborated with The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, The Hong Kong Children’s Choir, and local artists like George Lam, Johnny Yip, Eason Chan, Joey Yung, Jan Lamb, Chet Lam, Elaine Kong, Lesley Chiang etc.
As a group, since its establishment Renfrew Group has appeared on RTHK4 (performance and interview with renowned pianist Nancy Loo), the 1st Hong Kong Jazz Festival, charity performances for Lok Shin Tong, major local jazz clubs including Fringe Club, Bluedoor, Gecko, Backstage Live, Melting Pot, and Jin Restaurant in Boston. Since its debut album “24/7”, Renfrew Group members have embarked on their separate musical journeys in different places in the world; but the group is reuniting this year, and is currently working on a series of performances and its 2nd album which features large-scale jazz orchestra composition and arrangements, which is scheduled for release in November.
