Steinar Raknes is one of Norway’s foremost jazz bassists and songwriters. His trio consists of himself as the double bass, John Pål Inderberg as the baritone saxophonist and Håkon Mjåset Johansen as the drummer.
After completing a Master of Arts (music) degree in jazz at NTNU in 2001, Steinar has collaborated in a number of ensembles, including The Core, the Ola Kvernberg Trio, SKAIDI, Kirsti Huke Quartet and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. Many know Steinar through his work as composer and musician in the award-winning jazz trio Urban Connection, and for collaborations with artists such as Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Steve Grossman and Per Texas Johansson.
Steinar has a fearless and explosive playing style, and is often compared with the legendary bassist and songwriter Charles Mingus.
The band released the debut CD "Tangos, ballads & more" in 2008, and finished the release tour of the album in Norway and Argentina in the same year. Strongly influenced by latin american music, the band with the original line up plays Raknes’ compositions, merged with tangos, bossa nova ballads and elements from norwegian folk music.
