Dan Damon is an internationally published writer of hymn texts and tunes. He is pastor of First United Methodist Church, Richmond, California. Dan serves as adjunct faculty in church music at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California. Dan plays piano in clubs in the San Francisco area and studies piano and composition with Richard Hindman. Dan has toured Zimbabwe with the Jubilate Choir from the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church. He is currently working on a collection of African songs with Patrick Matsikenyiri, retired Professor of Church Music, Africa University, Zimbabwe.
Dan is a life member of the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada, and is a member of the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts.
Abingdon Press released Dan's third hymn collection, “To the Thirsty World,” in March 2002. Hope Publishing Company has released two collections of Dan's hymns: Faith Will Sing, 1993, and The Sound of Welcome, 1998. His hymns have been included in The Faith We Sing, the Chalice Hymnal, the New Century Hymnal, Voices United, Hymnal 21 and others. Dan's published anthems include “The Spirit Filled the Tomb with Breath” (AMSI), “Here Am I” (GIA), and “like a child” (Hope).
Dan is married to Eileen M. Johnson, and has a daughter, Heather, age seventeen.
