DEWAN FILHARMONIK PETRONAS – SOUTH EAST ASIA’S PREMIER VENUE FOR CLASSICAL MUSIC
It seems like only yesterday that Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) hosted its inaugural performance. That was the 17th of August 1998 - a proud moment for all Malaysians.
The home of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, DFP has also played host to the world’s best musicians and conductors. Among those, we have welcomed legends such as cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Sir Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Philharmonia Orchestra, Wolfgang Sawallisch and the Philadelphia Orchestra, and other renowned orchestras such as the Vienna Symphony and the New York Philharmonic. DFP has also attracted orchestras from the Asian region including the NHK Symphony and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
13 years and we continue to widen our scope, welcoming some of the world’s best jazz and world music exponents. The Count Basie Orchestra has graced our hall, as have the Yellowjackets, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar.
DFP also plays an important role in keeping traditional artforms alive by presenting dance dramas like Puteri Intan Baiduri, Mak Yong Gading Bertimang, Payung Mahkota and Demang Lebar Daun. All presented by the PETRONAS Performing Arts Group.
