Joanna Hyde has played classical music since the age of 5, and was introduced to fiddle styles shortly thereafter. She began fiddle lessons at Swallow Hill Music Association in Denver, and later studied Texas Swing music with several national champion fiddlers. She was the Colorado State Junior Champion many years in a row, and placed in the top five of the Junior Division at the National Oldtime Fiddler's Contest in 2004. Given that foundation, Joanna has since pursued many other fiddle styles, including Irish, Cape Breton, Swing, and American Folk music, and has been a student of Irish and Cape Breton Step Dance as well. Over the years she has had the opportunity to study with noted Irish and Cape Breton fiddlers James Kelly, Liz Carroll, Randal Bays, Natalie MacMaster and Jerry Holland. Since the age of 7, Joanna has been performing with her brothers in Colorado and the West, including the Denver Brass’ "Brass, Bagpipes & CO," as well as Colorado festivals, the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown and Meadowgrass. While in high school she was a member of the faculty of Swallow Hill Music Association. In May 2009, Joanna graduated from Colorado College with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, and now performs regularly with Iain throughout Colorado and the Midwest.
