The Wake Forest Concert Choir presents choral programs on campus each semester, sings in the Winston-Salem area, and travels internationally every three years. The next tour is planned for March 2013 to Chile and Argentina. The 60-voice large mixed ensemble seeks the finest in vocal and musical talent on campus and strives to present a varied program of choral music at the highest possible performance level. The Concert Choir sings the significant choral literature from the past five centuries and joins with the other music department choral ensembles in presenting major choral works with soloists and orchestra. The ensemble was founded in 1948 by Thane McDonald. Its most recent concerts include performances in Rome and Anzio, Italy in March 2010, Vienna and Eisenstadt, Austria in May 2007, at the National Cathedral, National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and First Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, Heinz Chapel in Pittsburgh, Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Riverside Baptist Church in Miami, Bucknell University, Washington and Lee University, Duke University Chapel, the North Carolina Collegiate Choral Festival, and the Wake Forest Moravian Lovefeast and Candle Service held during the holiday season in Wait Chapel.
The Collegium Musicum Vocal Ensemble is a select chorus of 30 singers that performs with the Collegium Musicum Instrumental Ensemble to present concerts concentrating on a specific composer or national style from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods of music history. The ensemble sings in English, Latin, French, Italian, and Spanish in order to present this important repertoire to our audiences. As well, this ensemble provides choral selections by more recent composers for campus concerts with the Concert Choir. It offers the participants the chance to specialize in the presentation of early music and to enjoy singing in a small group.
The Wake Forest Chamber Choir was formed in September 2010 to perform in Brendle Recital Hall with the large choral ensembles, for administrative functions on campus, and in the Winston-Salem community for high school and church audiences. The ensemble seeks 12 womenís voices to create a 3-part SSA ensemble and 6 menís voices to create TB sections for a combined SSATB ensemble. The repertoire is chosen from classical choral genres to be entertaining to our Brendle, campus, and off-campus audiences.
