The Williamsport City Jazz Orchestra formed in 2011 when a group of like-minded jazz musicians and enthusiasts found each other. Some were new arrivals to Williamsport from far away cities namely Eddie Severn, from Oxford, England and Bill Ciabattari from Cleveland, but eventually found Williamsportís own established and talented jazz players including, among others, multi instrumentalist Dick Adams, pianist Steve Adams, bassist, Tim Breon, and drummer, Bobby Leidecker. Inspiration from the success of other city jazz orchestras provided the catalyst to unite their combined efforts and form a jazz unit designed to offer great jazz to fans in concert settings.
The orchestra presently consists of 17 members and can be uniquely configured to various formats enabling them to deliver everything from big band and swing, to be-bop, traditional jazz and ethereal forms.
The WCJO got off to an impressive start selling out their first Williamsport concert held at the CTL. Area out door concerts are currently scheduled.
WCJO will grace the Community Arts Center stage as part of the Downtown Billtown Music Festival in their sextet format. Performers scheduled are Eddie Severn on trumpet, Dick Adams on sax, Steve Adams on piano, Tim Breon on bass, Bobby Leidecker on drums, and Mark Lusk on trombone.
Plans are further developing to incorporate an educational arm to the WCJO with the hope of nurturing up and coming jazz players while providing an opportunity from which developing players of all ages can explore this unique and complex art form at a deeper level. Follow the WJCO at www.WCJO.org.
