I am a classically trained jazz musician. I studied piano with Dr. Edwin LaBounty @ Memphis State Univ. and Walter Cook @ Univ. of Mo. @ Kansas City School of Music. I studied composition with Dick Grove and David Angel.
I went to New York in 1976 to work with dance/theatre pioneer/vocalist Meredith Monk. I toured Europe, the U.S. and Asia with her and appeared on 3 of her albums for ECM records.
I appeared with saxophonist/composer Gil Melle @ the Kansas City Jazz Festival in 1971. I have performed with many of the worlds finest musicians. In New York, I played with vocalist Sheila Jordan, bassist Harvie Swartz, oboist/ saxophonist Paul McCandless and Colin Wolcott (from "Oregon"). In Europe, I toured with vocalist Lauren Newton (Vienna Art Orchestra) and AACM trombonist/electronic composer George Lewis. In Los Angeles, I've played with Wadada Leo Smith, Vinny Golia, Billy Mintz and many others. I have 2 cd's released as a bandleader, and have written chamber music and music for modern dance in Los Angeles. I have just composed and recorded "New Orleans Lowdown". This is music for an 8 piece band dedicated to New Orleans. It will be choreographed and staged as a dance/theatre piece by the Nannette Brodie Dance Company (nbdt.net) here in Los Angeles sometime in 2008.
