Composer-musician Ben Siems founded The Willie August Project with drummer Jeremy Hauer in the late 1990s. Since then, the group has put out three CDs and received a host of honors, including multiple awards from the Song of the Year international songwriting contest and a #1 New Addition listing for XM Satellite Radio Real Jazz.
In addition to leading The Willie August Project, Siems composes music in styles ranging from folk-blues to neoclassical to avant garde, and has been commissioned multiple times to compose music for dance, theater and film. He has received over a dozen music composition grants from agencies in Minnesota, New York, and elsewhere.
