Marc plays guitar with a minimal, but powerful style. His trancing, groove oriented, story telling is often accompanied with African percussion instruments including the balafon and the mbira. With music that ranges from industrial influenced ambient to traditional blues and heartfelt songs.
Marc has recorded and performed live in many formats from improvisational rock to ambient/experimental performance art, from solo acoustic guitar to exotic compositions for tuba and vocal choir. As Phil Demetrion, a music reviewer for Relix, in Paris wrote, "From the 70's right down to the present day, Marc Black's chant-based songs and improvisational rave-ups have kept dancing souls movin' and groovin'. One might say that his live gigs presaged today's 'jam band' scene."
Black's credits include a collaboration with Richie Havens on the title cut of the award-winning, American children CD, the theme music for the New York Mets from 1987 till 1990, winning the Mobius for best original music in advertising and recording albums with an array of luminaries including Jack DeJonnette, Rick Danko and Peter Schikele (PDQ Bach). As Paul Winter put it, "His songs are great and his singing is superb."
This will be the third year that Marc Black has participated in "Harmony For Humanity" and it is always an honor to do so.
