Biography:

On the day I was born Leonard Bernstein (a family friend) was at my home and made hamburgers in the shape of stars, declaring, "This little girl's gonna be a star!" Inspired by Bernstein, I began composing at the age of three and a half, at ten had a work performed by concert pianist Vivian Rivkin at Carnegie Hall, won First Prize in Composition at Columbia University, and have counted Darius Milhaud, Vincent Persichetti, Walter Piston, Elliott Carter and John Harbision among my mentors.

I am an advocate for Human Rights and have participated in many international events, using my music to create bonds of understanding amongst various peoples. My heartfelt music has been performed at such venues as St. Martin-in-The-FIelds, Aspen Music Festival and Los Angeles Music Center. In 2000 I participated in a citywide art exhibit called A Community of Angels by creating an interactive music-art statue "Angel of Music" celebrating the power of music to bring love and understanding (I am both a painter and a composer.) In 2007 my "Fanfare for The New Renaissance" (created to give hope for a future where we can at last put down our weapons and enjoy the arts) won a Special Recognition Award from the City of Florence and the Florence Biennale -- and in 2008 my work "Jade Flute" united Eastern and Western instruments and moods and was world-premiered at the International Congress of Women in Music, China Conservatory of Music, Beijing, China where I gave an "East Meets West" Seminar on how to blend the best of both cultures successfully.

On October 12th and 19th, 2008 my Fanfare will receive its California Premiere at the NACUSA Concerts (National Association of Composers USA) in Los Angeles performed by Concert Pianist Mary Au and this piece and the two concerts are dedicated to Daniel Pearl World Music Days! I am proud to be part of the Daniel Pearl World Music Days and support its message and mission to create greater harmony and peace through the medium of music!
