Juan Alamo

(Marimbist, Vibraphonist, Percussionist, Composer and Educator) Born and raised in Cidra, Puerto Rico. Juan took his first steps towards playing percussion at the age of 6 and began his passion for Marimba at the age of 16. He started his performance experiences playing for several Puerto Rico salsa bands such as Song by Four, Rey Ruiz, Charlie Cruz, Elias Lopez and others. Also Juan played during 1998 to 2002 with the Symphony Orchestra and the San Juan Pops Orchestra. He was honored with a Magna Cum Laude from the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico in 2001. In the same year he was awarded by the Government of Puerto Rico a scholarship to pursuit his Master Degree in the University of North Texas. Juan decided to further his musical skills studies at the University of North Texas where he will obtain his Doctorate in Music Performance with a minor in Jazz and be the first Puerto Rican to obtain a Doctarate Degree of Percussion in the whole caribbean. Currently Juan is a Professor and the Director of the Percussion Emsemble at the Howard Payne University in Bronwood, Texas. As a freelance percussionist Juan Alamo is an active performer in the DFW area performing and recording. Juan is also the Director and vibes player of his own group LatinVibes With LatinVibes, Mr. Alamo is being featured in Latin Jazz Festivals, concerts, community events and TV programs in the DFW area. As a Marimba soloist Juan has presented recitals in different areas of United States and Puerto Rico. Also he has performed and shared the stage with renowed artist such as Keiko Abe, William Cahn, Ney Rosauro, Orlando Cotto, Steve Shick, Tito Puente, Arturo Sandoval, and famous conductors such as Sergiu Comissiona and Krzyszt Penderecki. He received his Bachelor in Percussion at the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico and his Masters from University from North Texas. He is an artist/clinician for Encore Mallets Inc.
